Announcements from Google IO and MS Build

In past couple of days, Google had Annual IO event and Microsoft had MS Build 2018. Hell lot of innovation and changes for both consumer and developer community. But here are some key announcements from Google IO and MS Build.

MS Build 2018:
• Microsoft makes it much talked about feature, Live Share available for everyone for free, even those who use Visual studio code. Developers can see where the cursor is and when colleagues are typing irrespective of the platform they are on. • Microsoft has announced an update to IntelliSense, it’s now called IntelliCode. Instead of simply providing an alphabetical list of code completion suggestions, it would intelligently suggest the next API for developer to use. • Microsoft is pushing to leverage Microsoft Graph to the developer community. This I personally feel is really huge for Microsoft, they are changing the Microsoft 365 Experience completely. • There are a lot of announcements on Cognitive Services at the event, like Handwriting recognition service, support for Custom Vision Service in Azure IoT Edge. But there was one more update which I felt was really cool, Microsoft has launched a Unified Endpoint for all of its speech services like Bing Speech, Speech Recognition, Custom Speech Service and Translation API.

Google IO:
• Google has integrated it’s AI engine into Google Maps. There is a section in Google maps called “For you”, which would give you custom tailored recommendations in neighborhood and cities. Read More…
• Google Assistant is where Google concentrated the most in this IO. And Google Assistant has lot more routines than it had earlier and it also announced that support for creating custom and scheduled routines just like Alexa. Read More…
• Google has announced that it has made it easier for the enterprises to customize the Material design as per their branding. Read more…
• Google has announced the launch of new Android App Bundle, which will significantly reduce the size of the app and thereby gain better conversion rate. Read More…
• Google has announced a major update for Android Development Studio with Visual navigation editing, optimizer for smaller app code, a way to measure apps impact on battery life, and JetPack. And one more big news for developers is they have reduced the launch time of Emulator to less than 2 seconds thereby increasing productivity. Read more…
• In awake of Fake news and other recent hiccups that social networks encountered in past few months, Google has announced an AI Powered Redesign of Google News to give more holistic view of news story. Read More…
• Google has announced ML Kit SDK for app developers on iOS and Android that allows them to integrate into apps a number of pre-built Google provided machine learning models. Best part is that these models like Image labeling, barcode scanning are available online and offline as well, depending on developers preference and network availability. Read More…
• I personally use Gmail a lot, so I like this feature a lot. Google has integrated Google AI into Gmail.
• Google is investing big time on AI, they renamed their RnD to Google AI.
